Student Car Insurance Get The Lowest Rates Now
Basic Information About Student Car Insurance
You're a teenager. You've completed driver's education. You passed your driving tests. You have your license. Now, by state law, you must go get car insurance. In many states if you drive without insurance before the age of 18, you may have your license suspended until you are 21. But insurance costs so much for teenagers! Fortunately, most major insurers will add you on to your parents policy with a student car insurance policy. Typically you get a large discount for being in school and another for being on your parents' policy.
This is a good deal that you will hopefully be able to take advantage of for the next several years. As expensive as student car insurance is for those with less than 9 years of driving experience, it is far more expensive for the same people with less than 9 years of driving experience to get regular car insurance. In fact, a regular insurance policy for a 16-year-old driver is often as much as 10 times higher than a regular insurance policy for a 26-year-old driver, all other things being equal. And, if you're a teenager with a sports car, you can forget about having extra spending money left over after paying for insurance.
The reasons for the high premiums faced by teenagers, even with student car insurance policies, are obvious. Teenagers have far more accidents than any other group on the road. The only group close in the ratio of accidents, people aged 85 and older, tend to have much less serious accidents because they drive more cautiously. Unfortunately, insurance companies don't monitor your driving or have spot driving inspections to see what kind of driver you are. So even if you're one of the rare teen drivers who practice safe driving, you will have to pay the extra money to cover other teens' accidents.
There is some hope, however, for those on student car insurance policies. There are some things you can do that will associate you with teens at a lower risk of accidents, and thus lower your student car insurance premiums. Many insurance companies give special discounts on student car insurance premiums to those who get good grades at school. This shows a propensity for responsibility and good judgment. Also, you must avoid all traffic violations. Even a single speeding ticket can raise your insurance rates significantly for years when you are a teenager. And of course, don't get in any accidents if you can help it.
In terms of coverage, student car insurance policies cover the same things that regular car insurance policies cover and work in the same way. The only difference is that you're required to be in school. Some companies will not continue your student discount long after you graduate if you got good grades in school and avoid traffic violations. So how you drive now could affect your car insurance rates for decades to come. So drive as safely as possible on your student car insurance and save your money to help you get through the already expensive college years.
